A child is considered to have a fever when body temperature exceeds 100.4°F (38°C).
What to do at home:
- Sponge the body with lukewarm water
- Give plenty of fluids and continue breastfeeding
- Give paracetamol as advised by a doctor
- Dress the child in light clothing
See a doctor immediately if:
- The child is under 3 months old
- The fever is accompanied by convulsions
- The child becomes lethargic or stops feeding
- Breathing difficulty or a rash appears
- The fever lasts more than 3 days
Never give antibiotics without a doctor's prescription.
